Default stock exhaust tips/muffler

so i went to go change the exhaust tips on my b5, my buddy had a spare set he got from ECStunning and said i could have them. so i go to the exhaust tips and there is like no way to remove them. like there are no screws nothing, its just like they are meant to never come off.. is there any other way i can get these exhaust tips off besides cutting them? or should i just get a whole new muffler?

The exhaust tips are attached. There is no way to remove them unless you cut them.

I'd suggest just replacing the whole muffler. It will look better and th cost would probably similar to cutting the re-welding the tips.

ahh i figured someone would say that. thank you. any good suggestions for a new muffler? i wanted a whole new exhaust system but right now I'm working on the wheels and brakes so i don't have the money to be throwing down on a whole new exhaust...should i just wait till i have the money for an aftermarket exhaust. throw me some ideas.

It really depends on what you're looking for.

Many people here have done the custom route. They would get an aftermarket muffler and have the shop do custom pipings for them. Magnaflow is a pretty popular brand of muffler when it comes to Audis.

If you have the tips and the muffler is in good shape then do what I did and cut the old ones off with a saz-all. I drilled 3 holes and tapped them and used 3 set screws to attach the tips that I cut off the Magnaflow cat back off my totaled Jetta. Here are some pics of the finished work. Sorry for the dirtyness. Good luck.
