Red face Straight forward answer

I hope someone can help me. I have been searching post after post with no luck. I have a 2000 a4 1.8. My warning light for the brake pads alerted me and so I have been trying to find the correct brakes for my car. I tried calling a few places and they asked me if I have discs or drums. I cannot find the info on that especially when I am trying to get the info on the pads. My next question is which type of pads are better? Semi-metallic or ceramic? Can some please help answer these questions?

You've got 4 wheel disc brakes. semi-metallic are cheaper, ceramic stop better and make less brake dust, but do tend to squeak a bit.

really?

you have 4 wheel disc brakes. IIRC the pad sensors are only on the front brakes.

All the brake pads will stop your car. Metallic, ceramic, hybrid...it really depends on what you plan on doing in your car, how much brake dust you can live with. There are a lot of different options out there but if you want to make it easy for yourself just go with Hawk HPS pads.

Metallic will be cheapest, ceramic most expensive. Metallic creates more brake dust, ceramic eats your rotors faster.

Seriously? I didn't know that.

Anyways, if you are paying a mechanic to put them on for you, get Hawk like was mentioned already. If you plan on changing the pads yourself, I recommend getting them at an auto parts store that gives you a lifetime warranty. That way you can keep getting new ones for free which is the coolest thing in the world . I use Duralast Gold pads from Autozone with the lifetime warranty. They're a little dusty, but I wash my car once a week so it doesn't really matter to me.

I think Autozone and Pep Boys are about the same with lifetime warranties on parts. You can look up parts on their web site and see what kind of warranties each part has. So far brake pads, coil packs and coolant reservoirs do. I just got a thermostat with a year warranty.

I don't know about how good they are to use in a racing environment. They have a more expensive version though at AZ called C-Max. I just use my car as a nice commuter car lol.

This is what I'd do.
