Default Suspension Question

So I just bought my A4 from my dad, and it has 160,000 on the original suspension, so it's time for a change... I just sold my truck for a lot more than I payed for the car, and have a good amount of disposable cash to put towards it, but I don't want to go crazy.

I want to lower it a bit, but mostly I want to get the car handling as good as I possibly can. I won't spend anymore than $1,000 on it so what is the best coil-over set up out there when it comes to handling around this price range? And what else am I going to need besides the coil-overs to make it all work?

I did search around the forums for a good while, but didn't really have my questions answered, so i thought I would make a post. Thanks a lot all I appreciate it!

Your best option is to not go coil-overs. You pay more for a worse ride to get the adjustability.

Agreed. OEM S4 struts and H&R race springs to me are ideal.

^^^Agree, s4 struts and shocks are cheaper then coil overs and will give you a close to stock but stiffer sporty ride. I have a set sitting in my house waiting till i get springs to install them. Depending on your roads this may be a good option.

Well I would like to go a little lower though that's the only thing. Are the S4 struts and springs really the best handling option out there? If they really are I will go with them but I am willing to pay more if there is a better option out there. I am assuming the vmaxx coils I keep seeing are really just better for lowering than for handling? I am not worried about a stiff ride if it's not ridiculous, I am coming from a lifted F250 so stiff is something I'm very used to and won't bother me.

s4 shocks and struts are not the best handling out there but i would say def better that Vmaxx and most other coils. Vmaxx are cheap and are for looks, if you want handling you will need to spend a lot. I would run s4 if you want a nice ride height and good handling with comfort. If you want a stiff ride the get a really expensive set of coil overs, like Tein (IMO some of the best). I picked up s4 shocks and struts for $125 total, getting springs for $170 (Tein s tech) so $295 total is a pretty good deal for better ride better handling (but not THE best handling but better then most coil overs) that's my $.02.
