Change of plan... This is not going to "totally be the car that sits in my garage and and gets slowly transformed into a yada yada"... This is going to be the car that quicky becomes my DD so we can sell my wife's maxima, as it has got to go due to recent events... Whatever...
Anyways... I'll be chipping it at most, and I will still be super excited about everything else.
So Im just going to get a stock clutch and flywheel. It seems that no matter where I look, the flywheel (stock dual mass) is going to be about $475 (will probably be south bend). For the clutch, Sachs seems to be the most reputable and 2nd cheapest (300ish) while Luk has a clutch for $230ish. Last I knew is sachs is oem equiptment in porsches... I don't know about Luk's quality though... What do you guys think? Any experiences with these brands? Obviously South Bend is good stuff but thier cheapest clutch is $400ish.

Go for SB. For a few bucks more and who knows, maybe it will turn into a project sometime. A little late but congrats on the $1,700 purchase. I'm looking for the exact type of buy. A cheap 97-99 1.8t so I can have the AEB core hanging around in my garage and slowly building it to a stroker til I get stuck somewhere and ship it out. The rest of the car I would part out. Probly double the profits that way. Had I known of this sooner I woulda jumped on over to OH myself. lol
Yeah, I'll probably end up with a stg. 2 maybe stg. 3 SB clutch.
Valve cover gasket is in with new plugs, and I degreased the valve cover so it's looking cosmetically good.. I cleared the CEL, reset inspection reminders, and let the car run for a good 25 mins. CEL did not return with EGR flow fault during that time, but it should eventually... The car has basically been sitting for a month or so with the exception of an occasional short start up. The longer I let it run, the better it sounded. I thought I heard slight rod konck before, but that seemed to have dissappeared after while. It has a leak at the flex pipe. No big deal. There is absolutely no smoke out the tail pipe, it revs freely. Compression test is next, and I sort of have high hopes. I might get the kit today. Here is a corny in cabin startup w/revs just for fun:

I'm hoping to get it in the garage w/wheels off and on jack stands in the next day or 2

Since you have the valve cover off, you should check the half moon seal as I just did mine as they have a tendency to go out as well.
Why do you need to replace your flywheel, is it toast? When I changed my clutch, I just had mine resurfaced and it cost a lot less. The machine shop charged me $100 and I have been running on it for 2 years now with a stage 3 kevlar clutch and it works great.

I'll have to see what the fw looks like when I get to it. So far I can only assume that it't the stock fw with 170k on it and might had been resurfaced once or maybe even twice before. I'm trying to get some people to help me push the mfer into the garage right now.
