throttle adptation?!?

hey. i have a 97 audi a4 1.8 turbo, that wont do a throttle adaptation. The car idles fine but when you try to drive it just kinda stutters. Its manual trans. I open to any and all ideas.

How do you know you need a throttle adaptation? Are you seeing any other symptoms? CEL?
