My girl just got a 01 Audi A4 and we noticed a ticking coming from a little box above the air filter. There is a wire going into it and when we unplug it the ticking stops. Any idea what this box is for? it is connect into the air system as it has what I believe are air tubes coming and going from the box.

 

im assuming its your maf, maybe its dirty, the airbox has it on top (the wire plugs into it) try removing the female end the wire plugs into (the maf) and get some intake cleaner from autozone and spray that bitch down a lil let it dry and that may fix your problem.

 

The MAF is located inside the airbox. It also has no moving parts so it wouldn't click. The clicking is coming from the evap purge solenoid and is perfectly normal.

 

that solenoid makes noise on my 1.8t, but not on my 2.8. when i first heard it, i thought it was a valve tick. scared the crap outa me. why doesnt it click on my 2.8? could that throw an evap code?

 

I have 2 2.8s, one of my eval solenoids ticks, the other doesn't...but the ticking is said to be normal.

 

Is there CEL on the one the doesn't tick? I've been trying to pinpoint the source of this Evap code

 

I only get a cell when I have the tubing disconnected from the MAF and the Evap solenoid. If it's running and I unplug the EVAP solenoid, my car dies....
