tinting/sanding taillights
I'm getting fed up with my chrome-and-flashy taillights (as well as the comments about them, from you guys. Thanks [:@]), and I'm going to ty to get them tinted and sanded down today. I've never done this before, so I'm not quite sure what I need in order to achieve.

I'm trying to follow that DIY, but it doesn't really have pics, so I can't judge how it came out for him... and there's no other DIYs that I can find that are good. [&:] Anybody have any advice on what the proper procedure is?

I am about to do my tails as well. I've done it before, and didn't ever sand the lenses. What he was doing was just getting rid of any raised DOT lettering is all. You don't have to sand for it to work, but it probably will come out a little better. I'm just going to wipe my lenses with alcohol wipes to clean them, then let them dry, and start spraying. Main thing with it, even moreso than with painting, is to do light, steady-speed coats. If you go too heavy, you WILL get runs in the finish and it looks awful. Just spray lightly and briskly and do several coats to get the look you want. That first coat is the most important though - get that one right, let it dry well, and the rest will go on nicely as long as you spray like I was saying.
just clean them, no sanding needed. then start spraying down LIGHT coats at first and then you can go heavier, but i would stick with light coats so you don't go too dark. give ~15 min between coats and you can do a layer of clear, but i didn't. the chrome part however i would sand completely down
I Glass Scrubbed mine, no sanding. One coat turns stock candy apple to blood red, two for dark, three for black, four for Black. Did a buddy's yesterday with one coat; great subtle mod.
yeah....... as chaos said....no sanding required
i used rc window tint....... washed/wiped down lights.........then i wore gloves as to not get finger oils on the lights
and did multiple light....to darker coats...... i love the color mine are
and for the chrome..... i used duplicolor, i think fusion...... it is a plastic paint, actually needs no sanding to adhere.... just need to find a color you like
or take to a shop and have them paint the chrome to match the car
