I know some a4's were equipped with CVT or Tiptronic. How can you tell the difference if your viewing the vehicle online? Believe it or not, some owners are obvious to the fact of what their car actually has, and some don't list it. Is there a website that maybe you can plug the VIN into?

 

It depends mostly on the year. I believe the B6's got CVT in '03 on up. The B5 Tips have clutches and steels like a good auto tranny.

 

Shoot the seller an email and ask. Thats how I would do it rather than chase down information all over the internet. But thats just me.
