Does anyone know how to take the panels off to get to the shift lever? i dont want to break anything! BTW i used the search bar and there isnt much about how to fix it, jsut the fact that maybe you knocked off your magnets. Some pics would be greatly appreciated so i could get this done the RIGHT way.

There are several reason why the tip stops responding. The magnet is a common one, water in the TCU is another, faulty harness, mine even quit working for a month after I gave my car an engine wash (forgot to cover a couple sensors)...
when i shift it over to Tip mode it give me the numbers in the display like normal but when i shift it just goes back to the normal drive display.

hey guys - I added a thread in the TECH section nearly 5 years ago dealing with this... LOL!

https://www.audiforums.com/forum/sho...center+console

It is in regards to a brush aluminum shifter plate mod that I did. But the instructions basically tell you how to remove the center console and the shifter plate - which will allow you to get at the magnets.

Yes, for pre-facelift (96-99) cars you have to remove the entire center console and the dash trim/radio to get at it.

Humm, I'm guessing what you meant by this was:
Thanks for clarifying that the whole console must be removed and the very detailed write up brrman, and for the direct link to your write up in the tech section because I didn't see that post when I was searching. If anyone happens to have any pictures of this process please post them, otherwise I'll try to snap some myself when I do the job and share for others.
