so i finally got to the locking mechanism and opened the trunk. I took off the carpet on the trunk lid to expose the electronic locking mechanism. there are 3 wires that are cut. i will take pictures tomorrow and upload them. also while looking for a new part i came across a trunk release button on ecs. i didn't think that we had them.

ya i seen that, i just assumed our trunks didn't have the "popping" mechanism built in, i figured all it could do is unlock it. so i thought the button would be useless to us. but idk.

and where would it go? would be awesome to put it in place of the third button next to the fog light buttons, not the same type tho.

That button is located on the driver's door, on a small panel in the little storage compartment. I *think* its only on facelift models.

What year is your car. Because the B5 truck should not be electric at all, it is controlled by vacuum/pressure like the rest of the doors. The B6's are electric controlled including the trunk.

I dont have it on my 2000 A4 1.8t quattro. I have never seen a electric trunk on a B5.
