Default turbo charged 2.8

ok to start this off i am just throwing this out as something to talk about and for ideas to people i currently do not have the money for something like this.

So i know pes makes a supercharger for the 2.8 which is ok for the money

I read some were that the 2.8 block can handle around 10 pounds of boost before detonation without internal mods.

So i saw this kit http://www.ststurbo.com/universal_system and i thought it could work.
the kit mounts from the rear so it would have room.

So would that kit work? how much hp gain estimate? possible intercooler? is the kit a decent product?

it could possibly work, if you wanted to put twice as much money into this project as what the car is worth. HP gain would be tune-dependant, which would be a $1000+ stand alone system with custom dyno tuning, and you wouldnt make any more power on 10psi from a turbo then you would 10psi from a blower, just the way the power came on would change. an intercooler would be up to you to design. good luck.

Furthermore, even if you were able to boost higher with that kit, you would still need to upgrade the 2.8 internals. I've seen a 2.8 after hitting 12psi......not pretty

As mentioned, it's been discussed many times and isn't really worth it

Really? 10psi from a s/c would be the same amount of power as 10psi from a turbo

Last time i checked, 10psi from a ko3 is COMPLETLEY different than 10psi from a gt35r.

OP, those sts systems arent the best idea since the turbo is in a bad location and require way more parts. A good fab person should be able to make you a single or twin turbo setup that would make a good deal of power, even at a mild 5psi. At such low psi, most people on other car models can get away with a FMU which changes the fuel pressure in perportion to psi. These can be adjusted to change the fueling for boost for a safe a/f.

So cincy, at 5psi, from these good fab people, how much power could be expected then? Enough to beat out the PES G2 Supercharger making 295bhp (212whp) @ 6.5psi?

Depends on turbo size. If you went with something like a pair of gt28r's, i wouldnt be suprised of you put down 200-210whp on just 5-6psi even w/o an intercooler. If you went with something like a pair of gt3071r's, 230whp could probably be done. Cost wise, if you could fit a single turbo in the bay, a T4 50trim would be a nice way to get great power and only cost $700 for the turbo

got a pic you can put up for reference?

I dont know the 2.8's well, but if you could just use the stock headers and build off those, you shouldnt have much of a problem besides location for turboing the car. Have seen some top mount S4's however
