Default Upgrading to 18" tires

Hello,

I posted this in the B7 area but I don't think many people look in there yet so I'll try here. I wanted to upgrade my stock 17's to 18" tires but I have a question for all that have done something like this already, what did you do with your spare? Keep it? can I use it if I had to or no? Should I get rid of it also? Let me know what you guys did with yours. Thanks!!

you just need to make sure that the tires you buy are the same hight as the spare if they are taller or shorter then the spare it will cause problems.

Just keep the spare. I bought an extra wheel and tire, in case one of mine is damaged, but it's too big for the opening on my B5 Avant.
Also, on B5 Avants, the spare is a donut, so it's alright to run an undersized spare, but the whole point of it is just to get you to a repair shop.

i'm guessing your looking to upgrade to 18" wheels. You'll be fine with your stock spare. As long as the outer diameter is the same you shouldn't have a problem

I upgraded to 19's and I run a full 19" spare in the spare tire well with the same size tire. I like having a full size spare especially when running larger wheels as you never know how far you will have to travel on it.

Here is my spare in the spare tire well and the tire size is 235/35/19. So an 18" should fit just fine.

I don't know on B7s but on B5 Avants, a full size spare will Not fit. Seems backwards since it fits in the sedan, but in the Avant, you need to remove a few pieces of trim to get it in, and then re-install them, and, personally, when I get a flat, I don't want to spend my time removing those trim pieces to get my spare out when I'm already pissed and in a bad place.
But check if the B7 comes with a full-size or donut.
