V6 timIng belt & water pump labour times
Hi all my 2.6 12v is due for timing belt water pump & thermostat change, what is the labour time that I can expect from a garage? I would tackle the job my self but currently don't have the cam and crank lockIng tool, and in the uk prices vary from £90 to £100 plus & my local garage charges only £20 a hour labour. As you can see it mite be more cost effective to go to my local garage.

You don't need the cam and crank locks unless you're changing the cam and front main seals. If not, you can do it perfectly safely without those if you align your timing marks properly and make your own extra marks.

(This is for a 30v 2.8)
I got quoted 6.5 hours for timing belt and water pump by and indy mechanic. I think I'd be able to get it done in 10 hours with my hand tools.
If I'm reading it right, Alldatadiy.com has timing belt replacement at 5 hours (add .1 hour each to R&R idler pulley and tensioner pulley) and R&R the water pump at 5.2 hours. The labor is overlapped for them since 99% of the work is identical. To get to the water pump you have to take off the timing belt.
And I agree with ImTheDevil, you can do the job without the tools. Although I liked the added security of having them.
