Default Vacuum Hose?

1996 A4 2.8 12v- I have a vacuum hose on my car that runs back into the same spot where the heater core hoses go. Does anyone know what this hose is and what it does? It is really brittle and cracked, and should probably be replaced. I am wondering if it could also have anything to do with my heat only being lukewarm, despite hot hoses running in and out of the heater core. Also, I am thinking of just replacing all of the vacuum hoses with new ones, what diameter is the hose? Thanks for any help!

definitely replace any hoses that are cracked....just bring one in to the local auto parts place and size the hose up to what the shop has...

I would think that if coolant was flowing through your heater core and your fan is working that you'd be getting heat...I am not sure, but there may be a by-pass @ the heater core in case of a clogged core...

gl!

Thanks for the reply. Does anyone know what that hose does or what it's function is? Any help is greatly appreciated!
