Vacuum hose question....

Attached photo of a vaccum hose on my b5 2.8 that comes up from between the heater core hoses firewall and goes where? Any ideas?

It's definitely not a factory vac line - looks like it could be the battery vent tube as suggested.

i noticed the same thing in my car, not nearly as long but mine come from the battery.
