VW question

hey anyone familiar with vr6"s i just purchased one and yesterday it rained hard but the car ran good today i went for a drive and a the sudden the ECP light came on and my engine wont go past 3000 RPM tried getting codes but got nothing???

please if someone knows anything about what the problem could be helpppppp please

thats a fantastic amount of information about the car you gave us. i cant even tell you which section you might be better off posting in because i have no idea what car your talking about. there are several types of VR6's in many different cars.

my bad its a MK4 GTI VR6 5 speed sorry

Do the brake lights go on when you hit the pedal or do they stay on permanently? If so, replace the brake light switch. They've been revised several times. Depending on the year, it could still be under recall. Have a VW service advisor run your VIN.

ima look into that but is that for manual too i thought is was for automatics but i will look into that thanks

The brake light switch issue is for all VW, some Audi, and even older Cayennes, despite the trans or engine. Read below, though...

Engine speed sensor (crankshaft). Test it with a scope or quick sampling voltmeter. It's likely rusted and needs to be replaced.
