I know it is the tensioner in the timing area. I will have it all fixed on payday...then the fun of getting either a new CV boot or whole axel. Can't wait to get my big money in Nov. Fun things to come soon for the 16 year old.

Well this looks like a ton of fun...

We'll be doing the heater core in my friend's Passat this fall. I'm not looking forward to that. It looks even worse once the whole friggin dash is out.

You mean like mine looked at about 2:30 yesterday?

Ya know Devil this is the 3rd time I've done this on a B5. I always used Kris Hansen's DIY from over at AudiWorld. He took the entire aluminum frame out, including disconnecting it from the wiring harness. I've never done that. I've found that if you slide the ductwork off the bottom of the HVAC box, you can snake the box out with the aluminum frame intact. I did, however, take off the bolts at the end of the frame, the bolt for the pedal assembly and the one that ties the frame to the car in front of the steering wheel. That way I can move the frame out just enough to help me out.

Yep, that's the look I was talking about. Good call on that DIY, I'll make sure we have it up when it's time. I'm actually not dreading the job terribly - part of it is because I haven't been wrenching much in the last year or so, and I kinda miss it. Plus it's not my car and for whatever reason my cars are always the last ones I want to work on.

Ya know it's not hard work, it was a gorgeous Friday. I'm just very methodical about it. I tape the bolts to every part I remove...and I have a nice little Milwaukee cordless screw driver with a 1/4 drive on it.

Yeah that job seems long, but not tough. And I say I miss wrenching, which is true, but not so much that I'm looking forward to doing the timing chain guides on my 540 when it's time. That's a 30-hour job :|

At least. I looked at a 540 that needed that job and looked into it. Huge job, with plenty of opportunities to screw it up really good.

For sure. But I'm definitely gonna take my time on that one. Gonna turn it into probably a week-long project and do the VANOS seals and valley pan gasket at the same time, paint and powder coat some stuff, and in general do any cleaning I can do while I'm in there. From this:

Gotta get the A4 back together soon and get it fixed and inspected for winter before I start thinking about this job though.
