Default What else can it be???

I have a 99.5 1.8t quattro tiptronic and the tip mode doesn't work. When I move the shifter to tipmode it doesn't do anything at all. I took everything apart looking to see if the magnets strips fell out but it's still there(both of them). When else can it be?

So the shifter physically moves into the tip groove ok, but no tip? Can you move it forward and back as well? any trouble codes?

Yea...it moves into the tip slot just fine and moves up/down with no resistance but still doesn't engage... I haven't had a chance to check for codes yet. Any suggestions?

i remember a thread a while back about this and it ended up bein limp mode disabling the tip. any other symptoms besides the tip problem? (loss of power, low boost, etc)

Actually there is some power lost...doesn't really want to pick up speed from a red light. But dam its sucks without tip mode, i been driving without it for to long!

ya you might be in limp mode, even w/o a CEL. i'd take it to autozone/advance/friend with vag-com and get it scanned. how long has it been like that?

This thread appears to address a similar problem: Brrman - "It could be as cheap as $50 bucks to replace a plastic linkage or the magnetic switch."

When the tiptronic failed on my old A6 it turned out to be the magnetic switch.

There should be more info available on this if you do a proper search.

You are likely in limp mode which disables torque convertor lock-up and tip mode. The TCM sticks the trans in 2nd gear rendering your car slow and shiftless. Have the ECM and TCM scanned for codes.
