Default What radio facia kit are you using?

Okay, so I put my Alpine headunit in my 99 (not 99.5) A4 using the cage that came with it, but the kit I bought from BestBuy looked like **** (stuck out about 1/8-1/4" form the dash). So I ordered a Sosche (sp) kit off eBay and installed it... looks better, but I can't seem to get it to fit right...

What are you guys using with your aftermarket HU?

I've got the Scosche kit too, and I like how it looks; the only problem I have with it is it's just a hair smaller than the dash opening, so it wiggles around a bit. That's just me being picky though, I'm sure if I wasn't so lazy I could probably shim it up with something.

I just shimmed mine up ghetto style, you can't really notice. Although the black piece that surrounds the HU comes off all the time for some reason.

Glad to see I am not the only one with this issue, I got a new head unit and faceplate the other day, mine doesn't fit in right either. Also, The head unit I have flips down to get to the cd slot, and it is unable to fully flip down with the face plate on (its manual flip down thank god or it would f up the motor...). When I have some time I am going to cut the bottom part off and permanently attach the faceplate to the car, I guess with superglue unless I come up with a better idea. Also I am going to order some woodgrain adhesive vinyl stuff to put over the faceplate so it will match the rest of the dash, if I can find a pattern that is close enough.

Yeah... I took and broke the long center tabs off of my Sosche facia and it fit a little better, but even with the supplied spacer that came with it... the Alpine is still too far into the dash... but it looks alright for now, I guess. My Alpine flips down too, and causes problems with the facia, but I don't use the CD player (I have the iPod interface cable run to the center console)

I made my own out of aluminum. I've been too lazy to paint it black.

What did you screw the aluminum facia piece to? I have been debating on making my own, but I don't really see anything to mount it to...

I have a slight advantage in all this, I'm a machinist. I made stand-offs.I took a piece of aluminum about 3/8" in diameter, drilled and tapped it through with the same thread as the bolt that holds the wood-grain piece in. Loctited a stud in one end and then tightened it in place of the bolt that normally holds the wood-grain piece in. I mounted the stereo sleeve to the aluminum plate, slid it in place and screwed it down with the flat head allens to the threaded side of the stand-offs.
