Whats everyone opion on the best oil right now?
Check out brad penn oil. Its what i've been using on all the older porsches and alll the audi's. Mobil 1 and castrol among others have decreased the amount of lubricating agents(Zinc and Phosphate). Brad Penn has actually increased there amounts. Brad Penn actually bought out the old Kendell Racing oil. We are one of the only shops around the sells this oil. We have people from Va,MD,DC,NC,SC,WV buying this stuff. Just do some research on it if u have any questions. Still recommend changing the oil every 3k with any oil. The Brad Penn oil is actually cheaper then the mobil 1. If u took a quart of the Brad Penn oil and a quart of Mobil 1 and ran it through your fingers you could actually feel the difference, its huge. Brad Penn oil is also called the green oil, cause it actually has a green tint to it. We've been putting it in all our porsche/audi race cars for about 2 years now. Hope this helps
Thoughts on Mobil 1 extended performance? I usually run Mobil 1 high mileage 10w-30 in my 2.8 12v and was in a hurry and grabbed extended performance instead, 5w-30...Gonna change my oil either tomorrow or Sunday. Do you oil experts think I should return it or go ahead and use it? I wouldn't dare keep it in for the "recommended" 15,000 miles as that is insane.

It's better to change the oil early than too late
Wow, it's crazy how opposite some opinions about oil and filters are.
I don't think mileage matters. It's the condition of the oil that matters. Contaminants harm oil and fuel is the easiest contaminant to detect. You can smell gasoline in the oil, and when it gets pretty strong, I change the oil. Doesn't matter if it's at 2,000 miles or 4,000(every engine is different), and it doesn't matter what kind of oil it is.
Also, why change the oil filter every oil change? Have you ever come close to clogging an oil filter? Have you ever even cut an oil filter apart to see how much the element has caught? Most engines deposit a LOT of metal chunks and shavings in the filter when they're being broken in. Changing the filter(and oil) 2 or 3 times in quick succession is very important when an engine is new. After break-in, oil filters rarely have anything in them. The best reason(and only one IMO) for changing the filter every oil change is that the half-quart/quart of old oil in it will mix with the new oil.
In my case(I just bought a '97 12v A4 with 126,000 miles) the oil was pretty darned diluted with fuel at 2,500 miles after its last oil change. That means I will change the oil every 2,000 miles or so, and the oil filter every other oil change.
On the other hand, since the drain plug and oil filter are right next to each other, and filters are cheap enough, I will probably change the filter every time although it's not necessary.
What I can't believe is anyone going 5,000 miles or more on the same oil. I've never seen any oil, in any engine, go that long without obvious fuel dilution. And yes, I would definitely change the filter every time then.

Hey guys,
I live in Canada and the temperatures swing a lot during the seasons..
Like in the summer it's around 30 degrees celcius (86 degree Fahrenheit), while in winter it's around -28 degrees Celsius (-18.4 degree Fahrenheit).
What would you recommend for winter and for the summer?
Right now, it's using castrol gtx 10-40w on my A4 1999.5 1.8T (219,000 Km)
