Not sure if this has been covered, but I have a few questions about the biggest tire i can fit on a certian rim. In Lieu of a previous thread on here, I have decided to go with these wheels, enkei rsv 17x7 5x112 17.8lbs. et35

but I really want to run a wider tire than the recommended 225/45R17. I would like to run a 245/45R17, because any extra grip on the autocross course will be welcomed.

My question is, can I run this tire on this rim? also, I want to get the Stasis street coilovers, and drop the car 2" max.

Will there be any clearance issues? Would a wheel spacer or rolled fender be in order? Will I get excisively uneven treadwear?

you really should be fine but 2 in will probably cause uneven wear. i forget what et it was that you start rubbing but i personally would get some spacers. the farther apart your wheels, the more control you'll have but you'll be less nimble

 

ok, do you have any idea what size spacers, or should I just stick with the 225/45R17 and be happy and not deal with rubbing? The tires cost virtually the same BTW

 

i think stock et is 45? or was it 55? using a spacer to get back to stock et should do the trick. also, i don't recommend a 2in drop for autocrossing lol

 

oh, yeah I was planning more like 1" to 1.5" so i'm not to worried about that. I thought stock offset was 35....

So, if I bought a wheel that is ET35 and stock size is ET45, does that mean i'm 10mm closer to the inside of the car, or is it the other way around? I think i may stick with the 225/45R17 or 235/45R17. What would you do, i'm kinda nervous about screwing it up...

well something like this can't really be searched with any real results so being a noob here is fine lol, i'm not a master myself either. you are right about the wheels being closer to the inside. a 1.5in with 245 tires should be perfectly fine with et45. double check with some of the other guys to make sure though, again i'm not a master but from what i've read, it should be ok

those tires seem a bit wide for wheels that are only 7" wide. I say go with a 235/45/17.

Don't worry about spacers yet. Get the wheels first and see exactly how they sit, then you can decide on whether or not you need spacers. Rolling your fenders is another task to wait on...

 

I have 17x7 wheels with 235 section tires and they're a decent fit. 245 does seem wide for a 7" wheel. You'd be better off running a 7.5" or 8" wheel if you're hell-bent on the 245 tires.
