Exclamation Where does the brown red/yellow wire go?

Hello,
Sorry for this lame question. I really tried hard to avoid a situation like that by marking all the connectors, hoses, bolts etc, but I apparently missed that one.

I just put everything back after the head gasket job, but ended up with one wire coming from the driver's front corner of the engine bay, that I have no idea where to connect to. The wire (brown and yellow-red with a two pin plug) comes out from the big harness located at the driver's side bumper support. The one from which all the wires to the fan, the ambient temperature sensor etc come out.

If anyone knows where this wire belongs to, please end my embarrassment and let me know.

Adam

I took a look. Looks like it's the cable to the switch on the back of the hood latch.

Here's mine unplugged:

And here it is plugged in.

Thanks a lot Mtroxel for your quick response. Unfortunately, I have this wire already hooked up to the hood switch . I marked this one, so I hope it is the correct one, but I will double check the color once I get home since I don't trust myself any more.

Could you check if you have another long wire with similar connector going somewhere else from this harness? Even if I connect the mysterious wire to the hood switch I will still end up with the problem where to connected the one currently connected there.

Thanks again, I really appreciate your help.

I'm tending to think you've got the wrong cable plugged into the latch for this reason. When I pull mine back, it bends in the same shape that your orphan cable is in. See the little pinch marks by the red arrows? I can see the same pinch marks on your orphan. Those are made by the little slots at the top of the fan housing that fastens my cable on its way to the latch.

If I'm right, I'm not sure what's plugged into your latch. Only candidate I see is the cable from the electric fan. It goes straight down to somewhere so I'm not sure what the plug is or where it terminates. That's just a guess, but the shape of your orphan is exactly the shape of mine (and you can't see it all in this pic) as it makes it way around the fan cowling and through those little slots and clips that hold it in place.

Took another look. What I don't like about my theory is that the end of your cable should be bent in a U Turn after all the years it was plugged into that latch. Look for those pinch marks and see if they look like mine.

Talking Mystery solved!

Hi Mtroxel, thanks for your suggestions. They helped me find the right destination for the mysterious wire

I measured the length of this wire and it came out to be roughly 3ft longer than the one that goes to the hood latch. That made me thinking that it must go to some more remote place. After another session of starring at the engine bay with a help of my friend's eye, we have concluded that it must go to the coolant recirculation pump located at the bottom of the passenger side corner of the engine bay. The hood latch one (which is brown grey/red) would be way too short to reach there. Now everything seems to be working fine, so it seems that the problem is solved.

Thanks a lot for your help! Here is the picture of its destination point for other people that may encounter a similar problem. The picture shows passenger's side corner of the engine bay, photographed form the bottom.

Thanks for getting back. It's not often that engine wiring harness uses identical plugs for two separate circuits. I think I've seen that one other time with a different set of plugs.
