Wierd Vag-Com readings
Hi guys,
I've been looking at these forums for a while now but just signed up. I have a 2001 a4 1.8t(AWM) 5mt quattro. I took some vag-com readings today just playing around looking at my boost pressure. My boost pressure reading are showing up to 1690mbar. When i convert this to psi its showing up as like 24.4 psi. Whats goin on? what kind of mbar readings should I see in vag-com? The car is completely stock that I know of and can hang with my buddies 92 subaru legacy turbo 2.2l on about 12lbs of boost. Is my car chipped and if so how could I find out?

This has been discussed before, that reading is the total pressure. Atmospheric pressure is around 14psi depending on where you live and current ambient conditions.
So, 24psi-14psi is about 10psi, which I believe is about right for your engine. Installing a boost gauge should show this 10psi max. number.

When you look at your boost readings on block 115, always take a look at the reading at idle. This will give you the atmospheric pressure reading and you subtract that number from the boost readings, this will then tell you how much actual boost you are running.
Have to understand the readings on block 115 are done outside the intake manifold.
No your car is not chipped, if it was you would be seeing boost readings of around 2400mbar(1.3-1.4 bar of boost) on block 115.

Thanks for the input guys!!!! I feel really stupid now lol. That totally slipped my mind. I would like to apologize for wasting your time with that question!!!!! Last night after I posted i got my buddies boost guage hooked up and did several wot runs. Most of em held right at 10 psi. Some were about 9 and some went to 11 or 12 but for the most part it is running 10 pretty consistently. THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!!
