is this a window regulator problem or a switch or ?
My 99.5 A4 was perfect for the first 10,000 miles but in the last 6,000 or so miles it seems to be having all of the classic problems listed here, both rear bearings went, the front control arms are starting to go, air bag light came on and now the front pass window will go down but then it won't come back up for a while. At first, it only happened once in a while, now if it goes down like it did today when my friend got in and put it down before I could scream "DON'T PUT THE WINDOW DOWN!" it takes like 10 or 15 minutes of hitting the switch to finally get it to go back up. I searched the posts about window problems, it sounds like a regulator but I don't know if it is or it could be a switch or what?
There doesn't seem to be any grinding or other evidence that the window is trying to go up at all, nothing happens when I click the switch, either the one on the passenger door or the driver's door. From reading other threads, it sounds like when the regulator goes or the clips for the regulator, the window gets off track. This seems to me to be more of a problem with a switch, maybe even a loose connection somewhere, where the window only works when it wants to.
I would take the door panel off, and remove the small harness connectors, they can get corroded. Now im not just talking about the connections where they all connect to the switch but also at the mid connection and to the motor. If there isn't any corrosion on the pins there then its most likely the regulator. Both of those switches are on different circuits, so it has to be the wiring to the motor or the regulator.
