Default yo, temp sensor?

1996 2.8 quattro

So my temp sensor is out or range, so that probably means its fried. This might explain my temperature gauge never getting to the middle. I was told to buy this sensor(pics below) and replace it. So I have a question where is it located? and what is a good plan of attack for changing this guy out as well? anyone do this? Thanks!

I have been wondering the same thing. I think you need to unscrew the plastics in the center of the engine under the hood and find it under all that. its def not visible. I need a new 1 too, my audis a 97 a4 quattro 2.8...whered u buy the sensor n how much?

ecs tuning has these and should be the green one. Our 2.8s are a little pta.
Also a common problem on our cars.
