Hey guys, So this noise began and I grabbed my camera and
started recording.

It started out slow, then got faster, and then like in the video
was really fast. Then all the sudden stopped.

Oil level prefect. Not sure what Oil since Ive had the car for 8 Days.

It worries me that it might be rod knock. But it sounded like
it was coming from the lifters, and it was loud near the airbox.
Sorta sounded like it was coming from the turbo and bottom end too. So who knows.

I'm doing an oil change tomm! Mobile 1 Synthetic. I'm in TN so what
synthetic should I go with for summer? Gets up to 110 here. But thats only mid summer.
Itll be 40-90 the next few months.

Also, the car has 100,500 miles. Not sure what other info you need.

Please let me know what you think that noise it.

Sounds a lot like when the monolith in my cat broke up. It would randomly disappear. The cat is easy enough to pull out and check.

Also, if you have a bit of a sludge issue or a dying cam tensioner, you'll have a diesel noise like that. You can try Seafoam in the crankcase to help clean up sludge.

 

sounds to me more like an exhaust leak or something of that sort. check all those connections and what not but more important what kinda codes you throwing?

Ok guys! I found out where the sound is coming from!

Here it is, It's this unit on top of the air box circled in red.
What is this? What does it do???

 

No one knows what that part is and what it does?

 

that is an evap purge valve. i think it recirculates evaporated gas back into the tank but am not am positive

 

Close...

It's the EVAP purge valve (N80). It releases fumes from the tank into your intake under a certain set of conditions.

But other than a small "click click," I've never heard a N80 make a loud noise. Just unplug it and see if the noise goes away. If it doesn't, keep looking for your noise.

 

ok i wasnt clear on what noise you were talking about but yah the purge vavle making that sounds is completely normal (or at least i hope it is!!) my car does that all the time too. sometimes that sucker really pumps away. if it wasnt making that noise than it would be a corncern.

 

The noise in the video at the top of this thread is not normal. Something is broken.
