Default 02 A4 1.8T noob questions

I just picked up my audi a4 1.8t 5speed last night. I have some basic questions. I wanna do an oil change and spark plug change this weekend. Im gonna use mobil 1 with a mobil 1 filter. For spark plugs, will autolite 3923's be fine? What gap? Autolites have never let me down in my Mustang. I havent looked, but im guessing the plugs are right on top underneath that plastic cover?

Are there any websites where you can search the vehicle repair history from the dealership to see what was done over the years?

1st) With a 1.8T...just go stock OEM plugs. Be very careful of hurting the coilpacks too...as for the oil make sure you are running the spec oil (sludge issues) 5W-40 is best and filter...I would too go OEM or NAPA Gold (The big one).

2nd) Ask the dealer to print you the service records...any dealer will

Ops just read you didn't take the engine cover off yet. Go read up on how to remove the coil packs safely and install them in the same way. If they go bad the dealer has them for 35 give or take a few bucks. Also Autohasz (sp?) is a great place to get OEM parts and have free shipping on 50 (which the plugs alone will be that).

I am not looking for $50 spark plugs. Does the parts store not carry anything that'll work? Autozone lists the autolite 3923 as a replacement for 02 1.8t engines. I know from previous experience that plug always worked fine in my Mustang.

A lot of guys run the NGK BKR6E's which are the copper plugs that are ~$2 a piece. You'll have to replace every 3-5000 miles but at that price it shouldn't hurt much. As for oil, Mobil 1 0w40 is an Audi certified oil and you can get it for ~$20-25 for 4 quarts. Mobil 1 also makes a high capacity filter for ~$10. I'm sure you could find other parts that would work (and possibly cheaper), but these items have been used and tested by many of the forum members here. Good luck.

Do you know if this number for ngk V power plugs off autozones site (part number 6962) is the same as the ones you listed as bkr6e? Autozone lists them as $2.09/each. I wanna get everything locally and do it ths week. I'd rather not have to order spark plugs.

I was planning on using the mobil 1 m-301 filter, its pretty large.

Is it easy to change the oil in these cars? I'm assumming 1 drain plug, right? Just making sure, because my Mustang has 2.

Yeah the number is the same (6962). Your post made me remember to change mine and I just picked them up at Schucks. The oil change is pretty easy. The hard part can be getting the oil filter out but if you loosen the coolant tank a little, it's pretty easy. It's recommended that you replace the crush washer with every oil change as well. Good luck with the minor tuneup.

Alright I got the ngk plugs (.032" gap)and some 0W40 mobil 1 with a mobil 1 301 filter. I could have sworn I read the 0W40 was fine, but now I can't find where?! Is it acceptable?

It is 502 spec and DL the oil spec sheet from audi.com. Also the plugs aren't that much...get them at ECS. You only change them during the 60K mark... In the end its your car and your investment...I would gladly pay the extra money for the Audi spec....the whole timing was made for plug. Its not fun driving down the highway and blowing a coil pack (which is 30ish) because you saved 20 dollars on cheap plugs.

Either way be careful and watch those coilpacks while installing new plugs...also would be to bad to seafoam it first too. God only knows what they did before you owned it.

Im new to these cars (but not new to working on cars myself) so i'm not really sure what you're talking about with breaking a coil pack by putting in a cheaper plug?

Anyway, is http://www.autozone.com/R,NONAPP1004...ductDetail.htmthis the seafoam stuff you're talking about? How does it work? Ive heard of it on the Mustang boards I post on, but never tried it.

From what i have heard, the copper NGK plugs run better in our cars, they just don't last. I have been running them for a lil over a year with no problems at all.
