Question 03 A4 keyfrob & unlocking issues, please help

Ok so I am a subaru guy and I am baffled with this on my GF's car. Last week the keyfrob was working then not working. I said let me change the battery. Went to Radioshack got a new battery now it doesnt work and the only thing that unlocks the door in the key. Now I am not sure if something needs to be done to the keyfrob or if the keyfrob battery was even dead. Also the trunk wont open from inside the car just by the key. Anyhow I went to Advanced and had them test the car battery which was working perfect. Can someone please help me out or point me in the right direction?

If you have the manual there's instructions of how to sync your remote to your car. I believe you start the car or just open the key a few times, something like that, then press the unlock button and it works, it takes a few tries though.

Default Had similar problem

put the key into the ignition, turn on ignition (not the engine) and press the unlock button on the fob - should now synch up.

I have a similar problem. How do i know if i need to sync or program the remote? Ever since i bout my car, the car wont open or close with the remote. I have only one key and that's the only way i can open or close my car. I have no instruction manual in my car. I did check the battery and its good...

Have you changed your batteries in your remotes?

its not the battery ... many people have had our similar problem mine has now been working for 3 days in a row. I took the remote apart got to the motherboard air cleaned it and put some alcohol on a toothbrush and cleaned all the contacts. Made sure the metal contact point rim was completely touching the battery and also the small contact point in the upper left hand corner was completely rapping the two points that come down on it when you put the key back together. Hopefully mine conintues to work, now if I could just get the steering wheel controls to always work instead of intermitadently
