Default 05 1.8t CVT, 3 codes,transmission Q

P0702
p0706
P0502

"17086 P0702 Transm.Contr.System Electrical"

Gah! I do believe this is pointing me to a new TCM, as I have the ever-classic flashing red limp mode transmission. (CVT drives fine allthough) I read on here somewhere that cleaning the connection *might* help, but I doubt it, if anyone can point me towards anything but getting the thing blessed by a priest as a possible fix, please point me to it.

"17090 P0706 Transm.Range Sensor Circ Range/Performance"
"17106 P0722 Output Speed Sensor Circ No Signal"
"16891 P0507 Idle Control System Higher than Expected"

Another *sigh* pointer towards a new TCM, however, would replacing the actual transmission range sensor help at all? What if I go to replace TCM and this sensor is still 'bad', would it make a difference, or should I just throw this one under the bus and consider it another fault towards the TCM.

"17910 P1502 Fuel Pump Relay Circ. Short to B+"

This is a new one to me, is it a sensor or a wiring harness? If it is the later no explaination needed, just going to clean and lube the connection. However, my fuel pump is quite audiable, probably just needs replacting, doing that in 10,000 along with timing belt, water pump, and o2 sensors at 70,000.

Besides the codes, I have also read about the torque converter, and it's faulty seals. I have symptoms of what I've read in the article, (just google audi torque converter), engine runs at 1900-2000rpm at 47+mph. It's not consuming a considerably larger ammount of gas, but I can tell the difference in everything from a (slightly) rough takeoff, to the annoying running noise when traveling at highway speed.

What am I looking at parts-wise? New TCM more than likely, thankfully the transmission runs perfect when the flashing doesn't come up (except for the extra rpms), so I don't believe the actual CVT is malfunctioning (yet!, knock on wood).

Other than all that nonsense, is it possible to swap transmissions? For example, instead of selling my a4 with CVT, could I just get the standard (manual) transmission and swap it in?

Edit: Why? Did I have to say the CVT was acting fine, just today, it slipped on me as I was entering traffic, had to pull over, stop, let it grab again, then reenter the road. I called my 3rd party warranty and I hope they will cover this, or at least partialy. I'll update on that as soon as I know.

If it doesn't have any symptoms when its not in limp mode like: Bucking, jerking, surging, slipping etc. Then its most likely just the TCM.
Swapping in a manual transmission is possible, but not for the price you would want to pay. When there is no automatic trans there the ECM would throw faults at you. The crankshaft in the engine would have to be replaced because it won't mate to a manual flywheel. Basically, it would cost more than the car is worth to swap in a manual.

That does seem like a bit of work for a transmission swap, so I guess I should just forget about that. I'm waiting for my warranty papers to come in the snail mail, so that I can just drop the car off at Audi-money-suckers and drive a loaner for a couple days. I am also waiting for new tires to get in stock at my local tire kingdom. Looks like I'm playing the waiting game.

Is there an all encompassing guide on the CVT and it's issues? If so, I plan on contributing something along the lines of that, any help for that would be great.

Seeing as the car is an 05, and the stories I've heard about the 02 and 03 CVTs, it *seems* that Audi is working on making the CVT more reliable, which is good, but at this rate it won't be problemless for years.

P.S. The only symptoms I have when not in limp mode is that it is running a couple hundred rpms high when 45+.
