Default 1.8t a4 very smokey

Hi lads, recently the turbo seals went, so I fixed it, ever since mostly after driving and leaving run idle, this embarrassing puffs of smoke come out, grey/white in colour and smell like burning oil.. Help!!

well if the seals went you were leaking oil so the turbo probably wasnt being supplied with a sufficient amount of oil causing it to fail (someone please feel free to correct me but thats what im ASSuming). When my turbo failed I had plumes of white smoke coming out of the exaust whenever I let her idle for a few minutes, then once I started driving it would go away in a couple hundred feet. rebuilt the turbo at 150k and just fully replaced the turbo, oil feed/return lines and a whole mess of other stuff last sunday and the car runs incredibly well now. not bad for over 205k miles

Thanks 02A4kid, it's possible I might have to do what you've done to yours, is it a big job and would a good clean throughout do the job for me?

the job is definatly time consuming, a thourough cleaning would not do much if the turbo is shot. if the bearings/shaft is damaged on the turbo there isn't much you can do other than just replace it or try and rebuild it. My original turbo lasted until 150k, then I had it rebuilt and it only lasted another 50k before going completely.
