Default 2003 A4 1.8T Quattro Clutch replacement

Hi Guys,
I drive a 2003 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro manual; it has 51K miles on it. I took it to an oil change and was said that the clutch has to be replaced. I can feel my car accelerating/rising when driving in the 4th gear.
I was said that the repair/clutch replacement would cost $1300 (including labor) and if Pressure plate has to be replaced then, it would cost $2000. I was looking at the threads and could not understand the terms used in discussions.
1. What is meant by an OEM and after market clutch and what is the difference?
2. What is OFE South Bend clutch?
3. Is flywheel same as pressure plate?
4. What are stages 1, 2, 3, 4, 5?

After all, please suggest me the clutch and pressure plate I have to choose and what would be the cost for the options suggested?

Thanks,
Manoj

i just got a south bend full clutch kit. with flywheel and pressure plate and those are two different things btw. it cost around 1000 but keep in mind that stage 3 is heavy on the pedal and releases lower i recomend a stage 1 or 2 if u want it to feeel like ur old clutch

Thanks Matt for your reply!
Where can I buy the South bend kit (Clutch, Flywheel & Pressure plate). How much does a stage 2 South bend kit costs me including the labor apprx?
r u aware of good repair shops in LA area to my clutch done?
Also, is it ok to run on current clutch for another 1000 miles? or does that effect the engine? can anyone throw some light?

Thanks,

We have our SB clutch kits on sale and with free ground shipping. I can also setup the install of the clutch at one of the local socal shops if you want.
http://www.shop.dthaus.com/product.s...5&productId=70

We also have a special going right now on a Clutch Masters FX300 or FX400 with a 14 lbs Billet flywheel for $920 as a forum special and can not be found on our web site. It is also only good till the end of this month.

here is the post I made of that special

Since you are in CA we would have to charge you tax on just the price of the part and not the cost of shipping.

BTW the info above about the stage 3 is a little wrong. The South Bend stage 1-3 all use the HD pressure plate. This means all of them will have a pedal feel that is exactly the same and the same or just slightly harder then a stock clutch. The stage 4-5 use a SS pressure plate that has about 800 more clamping pressure then the HD, so they will tend to feel a bit stiffer then the HD pressure plate on stages 1-3. Some people have noticed that the pedal feel right after getting the clutch installed is a bit stiffer, but as they get thru the break in period the pedal feel gets softer.
