2003 A4 Q AC not working
Yep.! your comments are close to what went through my mind when they gave me the quote. And that's just for fixing the AC. They also found a few other things, an engine mount that needs replacing, it's leaking oil apparently from around the head gasket, and my front break pads are about ready to be replaced.
To add insult to injury, I get an email the day after about some incentives for 'customer loyalty'. Getting that kind of a quote for a compressor that failed completely at 95K didn't really do anything for my loyalty..! Haven't answered it yet, was waiting a little so my response wouldn't have to be censored that much..

Not sure if you have shopped around anymore but like I said I was quoted$1000 to replace my compressor from a certified Audi shop so I definitely wouldn't pay the $2000 the dealer quoted.
On a side note, I ended up fixing my problem with the whine when coming to a stop and noisy power steering. After they wanted to replace my compressor I declined and it ended up being a $2 clamp. The hose that comes out of the top of the power steering pump was a little loose so I reclamped it and all of my problems solved! A/C no longer makes noise no more whining. Funny how after taking it to three different shops no one figured it out. It was even covered in a black oily residue, I suspect old power steering fluid that has leaked out over time.
