2004 A4 Cab left taillight shorting?
Hi there:
I was following my sister in her car tonight after a reputable Audi repair shop replaced her water pump and timing belt. I noticed the left rear taillight has a bulb in the far corner that is on (not the turn signal or brake light). It is bright like a brake light, but as far as I could tell, the rest of the taillight bulbs work fine.
What is this light in the far corner and why is it on all the time? The right taillight is fine. I am thinking there must be a short somewhere, but where should I start? Does this have anything to do with the timing belt replacement, like disconnecting the battery, etc?
If anyone out there has encountered this please let me know.
Thanks and happy holidays!!
Ted
P.s. Still working on the shifter bezel trim -- I have to get the part re-powdercoated. Wrong color.

That sounds like her rear fog light. When she turns her lights on, she is probaly pulling the switch out all the way. For the fogs, pull out one notch for front fogs and two notches for rear. You'd be suprised how many audis I see going down the road with their rear fogs on.
MFRs need to make it harder to turn on rear fogs and more obvious (to the driver) when they are on ... there's a virtual epidemic on U.S. highways imho.... Jaguars are the worst too, nearly every one I see has its rear fogs on... very annoying... you don't see this problem in Europe for some reason...
Thank you guys for the quick response. Rear fogs huh? I had no idea her car had rear fogs. Is there any reason why only the left rear fog light is on and not the right? I guess I could check to see whether the right one is burned out.
I will let her know about the one click pull.
Happy holidays!!

P.s. Myst420 -- I am still waiting on the shifter bezel to come back from the powdercoater so I can install it per your suggestion.

Yea, there is only one rear fog. And you can always tell if your rear fog light is on by looking at the light switch. There are two seperate indicators for the front and rear fog light that light up when the respective fog is on.
Ted, Hurry up and get it done so we can see some picks of the finished product
