2004 A4 Engine Oil Sensor Light
2004 Audi A4 T1.8 Quattro
The engine oil sensor (yellow can + "Sensor") is coming on about once or twice a day for a few minutes. During my last oil change (few weeks ago) I had my mechanic check the issue. Code was for a faulty engine oil level sender and I had the sensor replaced. The light came on again, so the mechanic changed it again. And now... it's coming back on. The mechanic said he did a continuity check and the wiring was fine.

I have searched multiple forums and found many threads, but no real answers. The threads were mostly misinformation and confusion/mixtures of what light was actually on.
Anyone have any knowledge of this issue? From my search, I've read mostly about bad oil pumps and sludge; however, due to the confusion with other warning lights, I couldn't figure out if that related directly to the warning light I'm seeing.
Everything else about the oil system/engine seems fine - correct amount of oil, temperatures ok, good pressure, etc.

I almost guarantee this is a working problem.
There should be 3 wires going to the sensor. Test the wires.
You should get 12 v between the red wire and the red green wire.
If your not try between red/green and the engine frame that will tell you if the +12 is good or not..
Voltage between the red and the positive on the battery will tell you if your ground is good..
The grey wire travels in and plugs directly into the back of the instrument cluster, the only way to trace it is with some long leads and a continuity check..
Also check for burned wire terminals (ends/connectors)
In would imagine if you are getting insufficient voltage to the sensor you could potentially be killing the sensor and need to replace it (again).. But I could be wrong with that assumption..

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, I do not know the extent of the continuity check; I was just told the wires were checked, so it's certainly a possibility that it was not thorough.
I'm no longer an auto-DIYer, so I'll just head back to the mechanic and have them recheck the wiring; hopefully at no charge.
