2004 A4 low brake pad warning sensor?
I have a 2004 a4 and was wondering if I have a low pad idiot light that tells me it is time to replace the pads. The back look pretty darn low and I think I heard squeaking today and i don't normally. If I do have the idiot light how reliable are they?
Thanks

So there is NO warning at all for the rear? Not even the "old school" squealers?
Why the heck do the rear pads wear quicker in all my German cars anyway? Is it because they have been wagons as opposed to sedans?

deleted your otherthread to clean up a bit. just need one.. but i'll answer your questions here
what do your rotors look like? my guess is they are worn down pretty good. so i would go ahead and replace both pads and rotors at the same time. this is so you don't wear in groves in the new pads from your worn out rotors. then 10k miles down the road you end up changing rotors, but your pads have the old groves in them.
never go to the dealer. they will give you an *** raping. probably strip your hubs and tell you you need to replace that and a few or all wheel bearings. for a grand total of $10,000..
have you ever done any work on your car before?replacing padsis not hard to do. even replaceing rotors isn't bad for your average DIY'er. so i would suggest that. but if not, find a good independent shop in your area(shop around if there are a lot in your area. not sure my guess is they would charge you 1-2 hours of labor and parts. which depending if you go all OEM or not, between $200-500. just call some shops and they will give you definate answers..

O.K I think I need brakes(not sure if just pads or pads and rotors). I do not think I am metal on metal but rear look pretty low and started to squeak a little today. Believe it or not, I have 64,000 on the original pads.
Should i get pads and work done at the dealer and if so any idea on how much this will cost? Or am I better having this done at an independent dealer? I do not feel like I really need anything real special as everything else is factory and these have worked fairly well thus far. My car doesn't have any upgrades.
Any help will be appreciated...advice, prices and where to get it done,etc...
Thanks in advance.
