I have a 2003 A4 3.0 and want to do an oil change myself. Is the procedure the same as with a 1.8T? I have found instructions for the 1.8 but not the 3.0. It appears there are lots of different types of A4s and S4s etc, some of them have "canister" oil filters rather than the standard "screw on" type. So I just want to make sure. Thanks.

If you need instructions on how to do an oil change, than I wouldn't do it myself..... I thought that was a common sense type of thing

It's not that. I am very adept at car/motorcycle maintenance. But before I bothered I just wanted some clarification first. I like to know what to expect. This is my first (and last) foreign car. Most cars are pretty straight forward. But this Audi has that weird pan underneath and apparently the oil filter is easiest to get to from the top (usually it's easier from underneath). Plus it appears that various Audis have ether the standard screw on oil filter or a "canister" type. And it even seems like some Audis take like 10 quarts of oil? I just like to get all the facts. I am going to assume my car (03 a4 3.0) is pretty standard: regular oil filter, 5 quarts.

I have it as a spin-on filter with 6.8 qts with filter change. 5w-30 or 5w-40 and a warning of 'Do not overfill or it will set a code'.
