A4 2.0 petrol B6 2001 Clutch/DMF
At 64000 miles my clutch seems to be on its way out, when taking off in No 1 it bites at a very high position. On enquiring on prices of clutch kits I was told that this car is fitted with a DMF (dual mass flywheel) and may also be fitted with a concentric slave cylinder. They said it might be a good idea to change the clutch, concentric slave cylinder and DMF. Has anybody got some advice on this. Please help before this leaves a big hole in my pocket. The tech told me that I may get away with 2-4k miles before the clutch starts "slipping". A ruff guide on price range might help. They recommended a LUK Clutch kit which costs apx £122.00.

Did you just get this car? or was it "fine" before?
Luke is just a brand name stock clutch which is why its so cheap and from the sounds of it they might just be replacing the disk not the disk and pressure plate. Plus when you replace a clutch you want to make sure that the flywheel is resurfaced and the pressure plate if you are reusing it. If you dont the disk wont last long at all because all of the micro grooves that the old clutch put into the flywheel/pressure plate will just cut down the material on the disk quickly. Its kind of like how you dont put new brake pads on without turning the rotors.
Hie guys, No I have not just recently got the car, I bought this car when it had 8000miles on the dash in 2003 and it was working fine all along. You will find the website to the outlet that gave me a quote on the Clutch kit. By the way the exact price for the kit is : GBP123.29. the kit includes:
1.Pressure plate
2.Clutch plate/disc
3.Release bearing set

The other thing is does the DMF necessarily have to be changed or it depends on what state it is in?? The supplier boasts that the clutch kit has a life time manufacturer's warranty and the usual exclusionary notes( damage by reckless driving and blah blah) are there!

Its just a "stock" type replacement. You can check the stock flywheel when you pull it off to see if it has high spots, if it does then you will need to get it resurfaced. If it is not bad you can just have it cleaned up. You will also need to check the "free play" because the springs tend to get softer over time.
Here is a write up on how to inspect the stock dual mass flywheel. http://www.dxdracingclutches.com/inspectdmf.html

Mike-2p that is a very good write up - i will give you that. I will have to see what state the old DMF will be when its down. Thanks and I think this write will probably help more people here than just me!
