Question A4 B6 Trans Fluid and Filter Change

Well my 2003 A4 B6 Cabriolet has finally passed the 40K mark so I'm planning on changing as much of the fluid as I can. My question for everyone is: This transmission appears to only have a very expensive external filter which is close to the oil cooler. Has anyone replaced this with a magnafine filter? My concern is possible flow restriction. Thx !!

Are you talking about an automatic trans? If so, the filter is below the valve body, in the pan. Always best to mention the engine type too.

Sorry here's more detail: 2003 A4 B6 3.0L with CVT trans. To my surprise the transmission does Not have a pan to drop. Instead two lines come off the top of the transmission one runs to an inline filter tuck under front fender. It then goes to the cooler. The inline filter is a $425 part from Audi. I have read that it doesn't really need to be replaced but that just didn't make sense to me.

So I want to change the oil but not sure what to do with this filter.

don't even mess with the transmission fluid until another 100,000 miles.

hartsoe1 thanks for the input. Surprised to hear that after reading how this transmission is made of glass but can be extended with oil changes.
