I just sold my 3.0 w/83k on the clock and my Audi dealer (Sewickley Audi in Sewickley, PA) quoted me $1200.00 w/waterpump & tensioner.

Hi

That price is really over the top but l have a question? I have a 05 3.0 vert with 17,000 miles and my wife plans on driving 20,000 miles a year mostly highway driving so if it's highway driving will her car still need to replace her timing belt at 80,000 miles?
And is the cost for a 05 3.0 the same cost as in the earlier years?
One more thing based on what l have read the cost will be in the $4600 dollar area so it will prudent for me to get the Audi extended warranty for $3000? And l also read that the extended warranty will not pay for the timing belt unless it goes! Is it possible being that she will be driving it on the highway that the timing belt could last over 100,000 miles?

Thanks

Alan

The warranty will not cover the timing belt service. Have the belt
changed at 90K mi. Find an independent shop.

Hi CrazyHawk

So the bottom-line is if the timing chain breaks then l will be coveredunder the Audi warranty, but if not l'm on my own. And tht's how they get around it. I was going to get the Audi Pure Protection package for an additional 2 yrs and 50,000 miles at a discounted price of $3200. But now l'm not so sure it's worth it.

Pure Protection package? Is that just an extended warranty, or something else as well?

When I bought mine, I got a 2 yr/50k mile extended warranty from Audi and it cost the dealer $1000 (ie, that's what Audi charged them for it).
I know this because my dealer messed up and posted the wrong price online. So during the course of the (somewhat heated) negotiations I found out what all their costs were. Worked out pretty well for me

For $1000 my warranty paid for itself -- but you'd have to have something pretty catastrophic go wrong to make the $3200 worth it.
