Default B6 A4 Quattro brake line question

So, last night I was working on replacing my brakes(rotors, pads, lines). While attemping to remove the drivers side brake lines, the metal line that attaches to the caliper amd the original brake line stripped. I managed to get the metal line and bracket off, and ended up replacing it with a metal line from oreilly's, but i am not really confident in the line as it doesn't seem to be an exact fit for the stainless lines that bought. Does anyone know the original part number for that line or has any else just removed the bracket all together and just gone the same route I did? Also, is there a specific purpose for that line and why doesn't the brake line attach directly to the caliper. Any info is greatly appreciated!

Just to clarify, the bracket and metal line I'm referring to is circled in yellow. Sorry I don;t have a better pic of it.
