dont get cheap plugs. theyll run fine for a while but wont last as long as an ngk or something of the sort.
i was in a pinch a while ago and had to buy autolite (shudder) platinums as the only place open when i was in need didnt stock ngks and i certainly didnt have time to wait for them to be ordered and arrive. they lasted about 24k miles until i got a code for a misfire. i pulled the plugs and the filaments were barely there anymore. mind you, the plugs that were in there before replacement were the ngks, and they gave me 55k trouble free miles.
anyway, i replaced those autolites with ngk platinum plugs again just a few weeks ago. theyre a little pricey, but for something that will give you 50k miles, its a pretty small investment

I've been doing a little research on this myself, and it seems to me that the general consensus is that copper plugs perform better but don't last very long. Platinum and Iridium plugs, on the other hand, last very long but don't perform quite as well as copper plugs.
I'm about to install a set of NGK PFR6U-11G plugs into my wife's Avant this weekend.

i dont mind replacing spark plugs at every oil change as long as they arent costing 13$ each. and as for oem i was reading they last long. but arent as nice because the manufactuer wants the longivity out of the plug. not the proformance. i was also reading alot of the oem plugs are gapped way off.
where sells ngk copper. all i see at my local places are ngk plats and stuff.

I went with the same copper plugs as what was shown on A4mods, they've lasted me 11K so far without any problems. Performance wise there was a definite increase, but my experience is a little off because I put in a K/N at the same time as the plugs so I'm not sure how much was gained by the plugs alone.
I'm not sure where your located but I got my set from an Advanced Auto, the thing is the plugs won't come up in their parts list for the A4 since the platinums are all thats recommended, that may be your problem with finding them. I grabbed the part number from A4mods and searched for them on Advanced's site, got their sku and they had plenty in stock.
Long post but bottom line is you mind as well try the coppers and see what you think. Keep your old set of platinums just in case, with the copper set being under $10, no big deal if you decide to revert back the next time you change your oil.

The OEM coil packs were notoriously bad on these cars, so you would be wise to upgrade them to the latest version. I think the latest version is "R", but I'm not positive. I should probably do this myself, as the PO only had two out of 6 of the OEM packs replaced.
