Buying advice.
I'm currently hoping to join the audi club. I'm currently looking at the following:
2004 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro
28,400 Miles
Certified-Used From a Audi Dealer
They're asking $15,995
Carfax is completely clean only had 1 owner. Only thing i found on it was
7/18/2007
Two tires mounted and balanced
Rear brake rotors replaced
Brake fluid flushed/changed
8/31/2009
Front wiper blades/refills replaced
Rear brake pads and rotors replaced
Front brake pads and rotors replaced
Is it a good price? should i try to low ball them?

anyway, just last week I bought a 2003 a4 quattro, 5sp auto, 75,000 miles (yup) from an audi dealer. Went with the dealer instead of Joe's Fly by Night Auto Dealer and pizza shop; thought that I would get a better car but not a better price.
The car has had new brakes and rotors, new Hankook tires (never heard of them before, thought it was Korean for "kind of round and black" but the reviews are pretty good), new timing belt, new water pump, inspected (whatever the he** that means, I can inspect it but I don't know squat), and all fluids changed (however, I doubt that means transmission fluid), black with cream leather interior that is in pretty good shape, no tears in the seats, looks like nobody ever sat in the back; just regular nicks wear marks on the radio buttons. Exterior is fine. It's not a show car but it's not trashed.
I got them to $12,400 which is better than I could get on a BMW or Mercedes of similar age or mileage...and they weren't and Audi! my 2cents? if you like it, don't let a few hundred dollars get in the way.....

Keroberos, sounds like a good deal, specially for the mileage. You could try to negotiate the price down to at least 15, I wouldn't jump the shark though, keep the dealer wanting your business...
Jfoote, That's also a good deal, since you had the timing blet service done and everything.
For both of you stay away from Front Wheel Drive (CVT) and make sure you have your engine oil serviced to avoid sludge, also be aware that our cars cost a lot to maintain.

Whats the average you spend a year on it?
I haven't got it for more than a year yet but, I did a t-belt, coilpacks, brakes, that's come to about 1900 so far, but the t-belt itself is a hell of a job, specially since I have the 3.0, you should be able to get by with around 1500 just on preventive maintenance, kind of babying the car, but you never know, you might need control arms sometimes, fuel pump, other items that break and are not foreseen in the common maintenance service.

For reference, I bought a 2003 A4 3.0 MT6 w/ 69k miles in Aug2008 for $13k from a private party. All service records included. It did need brakes and a battery over the past year, but I factored those into the price (original asking was $14.9k). Tires were replaced around 50k by original owner. The 3.0 package is a bit more upscale than the 1.8T and, imho, worth more.
kero-sounds like a great deal.for reference i bought my 03 a little over a year ago with 49k on it from a dealer. i paid $14000 and that was with out a warranty and such. go for it if you like it!
