Have an 03 a4 and I've found one so far am I missing something if not what a terrible design

 

I think you are missing the fact that you are driving a 2003 vehicle that is all about driving the vehicle and not how many gadgets and junk you need to plug in. Consider the fact it was designed years prior to that and we didn't live in the world of a gadget for everything.

They do make splitters.

And its not that tough to grab a hot line somewhere and wire in a whole nest of them for your electronic pleasures...
