Clutch Install Tips
Just finished putting my new ofe southbend clutch in. OMG! what a nightmare! i printed up a few diy's and they helped me alot ,but I picked up a few tricks during my install. First the diy said to lower the trans before unbolting the slave. That is not nesscesary. You ca get it off before you drop the trans ,and by doing that first you dont have to worry about messing it up. The prob that I ran into was after the clutch was installed and the trans was back in was i couldnt get the dam bolt for the slave to get started threading. I worked at it for a good hour ,and gave up like twice I think. So how I eventually did it was I found out that if you have a semi long screwdriver there is a pocket right behind the slave in the trans body. I stuck the screwdriver in there gave it a little nudge and there it was % min and I was down with that headache.Next was the top bolts on the trans. The write up said you could get at the with a reallllllllly long extension. That is also not needed you can get at them from the top(leaning over the engine bay)with thecorrect rachet. Sorry for the long explanation for two little things ,but i wanted to go into detail so people would understand. 1 thing the diy was correct on is if your doing this in your garage or in your driveway plan for a whole weekend including starting friday night.
yeah, i did the top bolt with a wrench, i dont know why you would try to get it from behind...
Is yours a five or six speed? i had a little trouble with my linkage because all the DIYs are for a 5speed... six speed linkage has three different bolts holding it. the drivers side piece has to be popped off the bolt, it took some pressure to get it off. and getting the allen screw on the passenger side to thread back in was a BIATCH!!!!![:@]
there is a few more tidbits but its not a terribly difficult job, just long... im glad i have an FE SS now and shouldnt ever have to do it again!
