Hello fellow Audi drivers,

We just bought a 2004 A4 Cabriolet. The sellers were up front about the convertible issues and we deducted the $800 repair fee off the asking price. I’m wondering if anyone has had this problem and if anyone has had any luck fixing it on their own.

The top opens, rear lid opens, top collapses down, but the rear lid will not fully close. The mechanic who quoted the $800 repair said that it is some sort of band that helps to cinch the top down to allow the lid to close all the way. I’m just curious if anyone has had this issue and if they were able to fix it themselves.

I was hoping that Chilton’s or Hayne’s manual, but neither has a specific write up on the convertible ins and outs. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for your time.

My top will not do anything. When switch is activated, the top in motion led illuminates and nothing happens, then error message that soft top not available. Remote trunk switch on car and remote FOB do not work either. I have tried the manual reset once and did not work. any documentation on the schematics and such for the top system would be helpful.
