Transmission opening, what is this?
Hi there,
While trying to track down an elusive vacuum leak, still not fixed but I have an infamous crankcase bleeder valve on its way, I noticed when I had the coolant tank moved out of the way that there appears to be a fixing on the side of the transmission casing that is open. It looks like an inspection hole or a fitting for another config. Anybody any idea what it is? Should I cap it? Is this likely to cause future transmission issues? It looks clean so I don't think its been leaking.

No need to worry. That is where a crankshaft position sensor is fitted on some vehicles.
If you were missing it it would not run.
P0171 , is that a permanent fault stored in your ecm. If the crankcase vent valve is to be replaced , replace all the other biodegradable plastic pipes associated with them.

Thanks M5S5 yes its pretty much permanent, already replaced the pancake, crankcase bleeder in hand. Been looking at some aftermarket better quality pipes just not sure its worth it. Probably just get some generic hoses.
