Default Open crank case ventilation system

I recently took my car to Audi for replacement of ignition coils as part of a recall. Well, I was advised that I need work done to the Open Crank Case Ventilation System ($470) and a slow coolant leak from coolant flange ($395)! Anyone know of any advice for a cheaper place to get these two repairs done other than the dealer? My only concern is that I want to find someone that actually knows what they are doing. I called an autorepair shop today and they had no idea what a coolant flange was!!!!
I have an 04 Audi A4 1.8T 4DR SDN 4 cylinder. Any help?

I'm in Colorado Springs and took it to a local APR dealer/shop. Parts and labor: 156.00 and some change... Pain in the *** to get to but it is fixed... No leak/smell

I have the same car. I had the water pump replaced recently and was told that I needed to replace the coolant flange. I was quoted $437.00. What did you end up doing?

I'm going to look for a good mechanic.

I went in to get my 75,000 mile maintenance done and they told me my flange is leaking and $330 to fix with the car apart otherwise another 2 hours of labor if I wanted it fixed later. I've been going to this place for a while (Audi mechanic) and they said they'll drop the price so I'll see by how much. Its a $15 dollar part..

The problem is.... even with a lift and the right tools. Replacing the coolant flange.................. sucks. Its one of the jobs i really do not like doing.

And i'm talking about doing it correctly making sure you put the oil lines back into place.

we charge 2.5 hours labor. and it probably takes that long too

The coolant flange really isn't that hard to do. Its just a pain because of where it is. The first time I did it, it took me about 1.5 hours. I could probably do it again in under an hour. If you're mechanically inclined, and have some patience, I would recommend doing it yourself to save the cash.

So they fixed the flange for a $130 with parts/labor plus replaced my serpentine belt tensioner with free labor. Not bad I suppose.
