Default Degree of Difficulty and Cost for A/C Recharge

Hello All-

I just bought my 2003 A4 Quattro today, I'm very happy with it so far. It's got a few minor problems that should be relatively easy to resolve.

I noticed today that the air conditioning was pretty warm. It was an 80*+ day today in North Carolina, and I had the temp set at 64, so I know the system should have been on full blast.

Can anyone tell me if I should be bringing my A4 to an A/C shop to get it recharged, or if it is something that I can successfully do on my own with one of those Autozone kits? If those kits don't really work (or won't fit my car), can anyone tell me what to expect (price-wise) for a shop to recharge it?

Also, if anyone is in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel-Hill area and knows of a good place to go, I'd like to hear about it.

Thanks,
--Pat

You need to get all of the air out of the system and the ac machines are the only way to do that. It cost about $75 give or take to have it recharged.

I actually got my 2004 A4 recharged today! It just cost me $110. It was noticable that the air was MUCH COLDER! It took about an hour to do. Its totally worth it. I was missing about half a pound, but I didnt have any leaks!
