Engine Issues; Please Help.
Thanks for reading this. I have an 02 A4 1.8T, and there is something going on with it. On a trip through the mountains, the car's oil light went on (has happened before, but I just had an oil change and thought the change in altitudes may be the issue). I stopped and checked everything. Then, I figured I would try to make it to a gas station, but on the way the car lost acceleration and top speeds and started making an engine sound like it had switched to a diesel. Can anyone please help make more sense of this issue?
Thanks.
Thanks.
STOP driving the vehicle ASAP! You my friend are the victim of the dreaded sludge issue the 1.8T suffers from. What you need to do is have the oil pan dropped and change the oil pick up tube and oil filter. Re-fill the oil and you should be ok.
If you have proof of oil change receipts for about every 10k then the repair is free of charge at the dealer even if your out of warranty. There is a TSB on it. It will even cover change of the entire engine if the damage is too severe, but you have to show proof of oil change receipts.
