Hi everyone, i think i have a similar problem as IvDogg.
(my car is audi a4 1.8 t 2004 benzine)
With a cold engine i randomly get an epc light turning on and high engine idle.
When the problem occurs (totally randomly but often these times) the engine stats hardly and epc light stays lit. At second start with warmed up engine no problem. I have already checked if there is an error code but nothing. I have changed spark plugs and fuel filter recently. Do you think it's the engine speed sensor which causes problems in my case too?

It certainly has the symptoms of the speed sensor. It's a fairly cheap and easy fix. I too did mine just recently and I did mine entirely from the top of the engine. The hardest parts was getting the sensor wire out of all the wire ties.

Had all these symptoms, cleaned the maf and still was getting epc light and engine light (p0102). Changed the maf sensor and all is well!

Default EPC / Check Engine/ Stalling

I'm having similar issues with my A6. It starts, drives and then stalls. It will crank and then not start up again. I'll come back 15 minutes later to start the car and it will start right up, idle high and then stall again.

The EPC light flickers and then stays on and the Check engine light will illuminate. If I understand correctly this model is drive by wire. I can depress the gas pedal to the floor and it will constantly crank and will not start. Other times it's starts right up and then sputters and stalls and the same symptoms start all over again.

Engine speed sensor? Sound familiar?

Default cont.

Well, I installed the new crank sensor (engine speed sensor) and now have exactly the same issues. Any thoughts at this point?

(* I'm still getting a ECU light and check)

Any ideas of the root cause of these faults? What's the chance of all these codes coming up at once? Would these faults cause the car to die after starting and still have starting/running issues?

Check ECU connections, fuel pump/pressure, egt sensors! Any mods?
Also make sure there is no water in or around the ecu! Common issue!

Ok. That makes sense. I was having issues connecting -via USB- to the Vag-Com (VCDS- software), engine "Control Module". Other Control Modules I've had no issues. I initially thought nothing of it until it occurred multiple times when using VCDS.

I'll check the ECU. I'm getting a ECU light and Check engine light when it stalls after running. A flickering by both yellow lights.

Egt sensors. Checking.

No mods. I still can't believe where the crank position sensor is located ie:Engine Speed Sensor. You need a telescope and a torch to even locate the thing plus multiple ratchet extensions and extremely tiny hands. Perhaps I disconnected something while shoe-horning it in.

Will the Fuel pump show up on the VCDS? I haven't seen anyhing that indicates otherwise.
